Remote Hearing Aid Care
Remote hearing aid care lets a provider adjust, fine-tune, and support your hearing aids from wherever you are, using your smartphone or iPad. Instead of driving to our office, you connect through a fitting app so your provider can update your settings, walk you through questions, and confirm your hearing aids sound right in your real-life environment. At Prescription Hearing, remote care is available on-demand and nationwide. You can always choose an in-person visit at our Palos Park office when you’d prefer one.
How remote hearing aid care works
Remote care connects you to your provider through a hearing aid app on your phone or tablet. The process is straightforward:
- Download the app. After your hearing aids arrive (or after your first fitting), you’ll get instructions to download the manufacturer’s app and pair it to your hearing aids.
- Connect with your audiologist. In a live session, you and your provider meet virtually while you wear your hearing aids in a real-world setting such as your home or office, a place where you frequently listen.
- Get real-time adjustments. Your provider changes your settings remotely, just as they would in the office, and you hear the difference immediately.
- Fine-tune over time. Not every change needs a scheduled appointment. With remote care, your provider can send new settings that appear in your app’s chat menu, ready to apply whenever it’s convenient for you.
Remote fitting vs programming
Remote fitting means your hearing aids are programmed to your specific hearing loss before they reach you. If you upload a current hearing test from a licensed professional, your hearing aids ship pre-programmed and ready to wear, with a virtual visit to confirm the fit and make adjustments.
Remote programming covers everything that follows: fine-tuning volume, adjusting how speech and background noise are balanced, and dialing in settings for specific environments like restaurants or meetings. All of it can be done through your smartphone, so ongoing changes don’t require a trip to our office.
Your hearing aid app can do more than adjustments. Depending on your device, you’ll find interactive hearing lessons assigned by your provider, basic controls like volume and streaming settings, and built-in guidance (like the Signia Assistant) that answers common questions so you don’t have to remember every detail from your fitting.
What you'll need for a remote session
- A smartphone or tablet compatible with your hearing aid app
- Your hearing aids paired to that app
- A current hearing test (audiogram) on file
- An internet connection that supports live video sessions
- A few quiet minutes for virtual appointments (doesn’t apply to settings your provider sends to your app)
Advantages and things to keep in mind
What makes remote care convenient:
- Access a licensed provider from home, work, or even on vacation
- Adjustments happen in the environments where you actually use your hearing aids
- Many changes can be sent to your app and applied on your own schedule without booking a live visit
- Available anywhere in the United States
Things to keep in mind:
- Remote care requires a compatible smartphone or tablet and a paired app
- Programming needs a current hearing test on file. Without one, we can’t tailor your settings
- Some services (like a physical ear exam, earwax removal, or a hands-on evaluation) require in-person appointments
Remote care FAQ
Does remote adjustment have to be a live session with my provider?
No. When you don’t have time to schedule an appointment, your provider can send new settings through the app. They appear in your chat menu and can be applied when it works for you.
Can all of your hearing aids be adjusted remotely?
Yes. We only carry current technology from top manufacturers with remote adjustment capability, so any hearing aid from Prescription Hearing can be fine-tuned remotely.
Do I have to use remote care?
No. Remote care is there for your convenience, but you can always come to our Chicago-area Palos Park office for an in-person visit instead.
Are there fees for remote fitting sessions?
Your first 60 days of care are included. After that, online-only fitting sessions are available through our concierge service for $95 per session. We also offer a Complete Care Package for $250 that includes 3 years of unlimited fine-tuning and maintenance visits in person or online.
